About the Standard NSW RSA course

Standard NSW RSA training is mandatory for people who sell, serve or supply alcohol to the public in NSW.

It covers liquor laws, the responsible service of alcohol and harm minimisation.

If you are new to the liquor industry or your RSA competency training took place more than five years ago, you will need to complete a full Standard NSW RSA training course.

The NSW interim certificate and the NSW photo competency card fees are included in the enrolment fee for this classroom RSA training course.

Unit SITHFAB021

Successful participants will receive a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment in SITHFAB021 - Provide responsible service of alcohol.

Fees

• $235 is the discounted fee for RSA training when you enrol and pre-pay online by credit or debit card. There are no hidden costs.

• The cost of phone or invoiced enrolments is $245.00 ($10 extra is for additional admin costs).

• The NSW Liquor & Gaming fees for your NSW RSA interim certificate and competency card are included - and your Statement of Attainment for SITHFAB021 - Provide responsible service of alcohol.

Who should complete this training

RSA training applies to a range of workers involved in the sale, service or supply of alcohol. This includes:

• service staff, food and beverage attendants

• retail liquor salespersons

• winery and brewery staff

• promotional staff

• RSA marshals

• security staff and crowd controllers

• volunteers.

You need to do a full training course if:

• you're new to the liquor industry, or

• your RSA training was over five years ago.

Have you completed RSA training in NSW in the last five years? You only need to do the RSA Refresher course.

Entry requirements, assessment & what to bring

Entry requirements: See the Foundation Skills requirements (oral communication, reading, writing, numeracy, teamwork and self-management). There are no other specified entry requirements for SITHFAB021, however you must be 18 years of age to work in a licensed venue in NSW.

Assessment: To pass the Responsible Service of Alcohol course you must complete the oral, written and practical assessments. Pre-course reading is not required; your trainer will provide instructions on the day. You are welcome to download the RSA course handbook from Liquor & Gaming NSW in advance.

What to bring:

• Blue or black pen and notepaper

• One form of government-issued photo identification (eg. Australian driver’s licence or passport)

• You will get 100-point ID guidance on your interim certificate

• Your USI (Unique Student Identifier)

• Arrive 10 minutes before the scheduled start time

• Read the Centre for Training Student Handbook before enrolling (terms & conditions)

The NSW RSA course includes:

• The national unit Provide responsible service of alcohol (SITHFAB021)

and

• NSW-specific topics:

  • NSW liquor laws and responsible alcohol service

  • Managing intoxication: helping customers drink responsibly, assessing intoxication, and refusing service

  • Preventing underage drinking: ID checks and preventing secondary supply

  • Harm minimisation strategies

  • Compliance and enforcement.
